I began my journey into photography
at the Alberta College of Art and Design. I went to school
as an artist but didn't have a definite goal of where my creativity
would take me. It was there in school that I fell in love with the
photographic medium and began to look at light the way the camera
sees it, instead of how your eye sees it. I graduated with a Bachelor
of Fine Arts in photography and immediately went on to work with
a few of the leading professionals in the wedding photography industry,
learning the tricks of the trade. Since starting my own business,
I have been overwhelmed with the opportunities that have come my
way. I have been blessed to be able to build my own studio in my
home and meet some of the most awesome couples in the country.
My style of photography is a mixture of photojournalism, set-up
candids, and romantic posing. When I
meet with clients, we decide together, the styles they prefer, and
the locations which will work best for the light and the overall
look they are going for. My shooting manner is also a combination
best suited to the moment. With candid moments, an unobtrusive manner
works well, while sometimes I need to fully direct the shot so that
the "candid" moment looks perfect, taking into account
all of the elements that make a great photo. I love to harness light,
work with vibrant colors, and create works of art that not only
tell a story, but are visually appealing for years to come.
On a more personal note, my favorite color is orange because it's
bright and powerful. My favorite Starbucks drink is a caramel macchiato
because I just can't resist all of that caramely goodness on top.
My favorite outdoor activity is currently paragliding. The hubby
and I just recently started taking paragliding lessons and we are
getting addicted to flying.
